Online Charter School Board Governance - 4 hour

 The session is designed to educate participants on the best practices and oversight components of board governance.  

The session contents include the required topics of board governance such as Government under the Florida Sunshine Law, Conflict of Interest, Ethics and Fiscal Accountability and the associated systems. Tangible "Take Aways" include a worksheets and templates.

Other modules in this program are: an overview of proactive strategic implementation planning, maximizing board resources and marketing the organization for sustainability, something that is extremely important to a Charter School's success.

The course segments include...


Governing in the Sunshine:
Participants will be exposed to the holistic definition of what Governing in the Sunshine really means through examples and case studies. Additionally, protocol on board meetings as well as the current Florida Statutes that describe accountability will be reviewed.

Conflict of Interest:
This module stresses the parameters that governing board members need to be aware of when it comes to decisions that can be called into question and actions that are contrary to best practices of doing business. Also addressed will be penalties and the statutes that apply to this topical area. Participants will also learn how to respond to this issue through practical application in case studies that will be presented.

Ethics:
Participants will be expressed to the codes of ethics as outlined in the Florida statutes and your responsibilities to the board, the school(s) you serve and the neighboring community.

Financial Responsibilities:
Participants will be (re)introduced to the real world of financial oversight with this module. It will provide details on budget development, review and forward planning from a revenue and expense perspective. Also, how to avoid pitfalls for your organization. The Florida Statutes that describe a board member’s responsibility will also be presented.
